01Who We Are
VP Pulse is a free public tool built and operated by VantagePoint Networks, an independent IT & AI consulting business based in London, UK.
- Business: VantagePoint Networks, London, United Kingdom
- Website: pulse.vpnetworks.co.uk
- Contact: vpnetworks.co.uk/contact
02What Data VP Pulse Collects
Data you provide
- Domain scan: When you submit a domain via the Scan tool, that domain name is sent to our server, checked against 8 security criteria, and the result is cached in our database for 24 hours so repeat lookups are instant. We do not store your IP address alongside scan results.
- Push notifications: If you subscribe to outage alerts, we store your browser's push endpoint and encryption keys (p256dh, auth) in our database. No name, email, or personal identifier is collected — only the technical subscription object your browser generates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Data collected automatically
- Tile scores: Every 5 minutes the dashboard fetches live UK internet health metrics (DNS, BGP, TLS, latency, Cloudflare Radar). These are aggregate infrastructure readings — they contain no personal data and are kept for 30 days.
- Speed test: The speed test runs entirely in your browser using Cloudflare's speed.cloudflare.com endpoints. No results are stored on our servers. Cloudflare may log the request per their own privacy policy.
- Server logs: Vercel (our hosting provider) may retain standard server access logs (IP address, request path, timestamp) for a short period per their data processing agreement.
We do not require account creation, collect names or email addresses, serve advertising, or sell any data.
03How We Use Your Data
| Purpose | Data used |
|---|---|
| Returning cached scan results | Domain name |
| Sending outage push notifications | Push subscription endpoint + keys |
| Displaying UK internet health dashboard | Aggregate tile scores |
| Improving the service | Anonymised usage patterns via Vercel |
04Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR)
- Legitimate interests: Caching scan results, running the dashboard, server security.
- Consent: Push notification subscriptions — you explicitly opt in and can withdraw at any time.
- Legal obligation: Retaining records as required by UK law.
05Third-Party Services
- Vercel — Hosting & edge functions. EU/UK data processing agreement in place.
- Supabase — Database (tile scores, scan cache, push subscriptions). Data stored in the EU.
- Cloudflare — Speed test endpoints (speed.cloudflare.com) and Radar API. Your IP is sent to Cloudflare per their privacy policy.
- SSL Labs (Qualys) — TLS grading for the scan tool. The domain you scan is sent to Qualys per their terms of service.
06Data Retention
- Scan results: Cached for 24 hours, then overwritten on next scan or removed by nightly cleanup.
- Tile scores: Rolling 30-day history, older rows deleted nightly.
- Push subscriptions: Retained until you unsubscribe or the endpoint becomes invalid.
- Server logs: Per Vercel's retention policy (typically days).
07Your Rights (UK GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of any personal data we hold about you. To exercise any right, contact us via vpnetworks.co.uk/contact — we will respond within one calendar month.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
08Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). The Supabase database uses row-level security. Push subscription keys are stored encrypted. We review our data practices regularly and will notify the ICO within 72 hours of any reportable breach.
09Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date below. Continued use of VP Pulse after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
